Sweet. So what do you all think of Earth day? Do any of you help the environment? If so what do you do? If not, why are you killing our planet!?

not participating in earth day doesnt mean you are killing the planet. Its the same idea as just because i dont give blood doesnt mean i want people to die.

The question in the blog wasn't "How did you aprticipate in earth day?" It was "What are you doing to make the world a better place?"
Apr 24th 2007
Doin good in the environment does make the world a better place to live. Not that we have much of a choice. But I think you were thinkin more along the lines of a personal level. What do we do to help other people in the world? Is that correct?

Don't get an environmental discussion going on here.
What I'm doing to make the world a better place is living by II Corinthians 2:14. Suffering so that I can help others when they are suffering, and it seems like alot of chaotic things are happenning right now, so I'm doing my best to help them in any way I can. That's about all I've got so far.

Lets just not sin...hows that one sound? Should we feel ashamed of our sins if we have asked the Lord to forgive them? My logic here comes from Psalms, I couldn't tell you the chapter or verse though. But its written that when we ask it, God will blot out sins. They will be erased from the books, as if they never happened. Should we then, if forgive has been asked for, forget our sins ourselves? If they are removed from God's memory, should they not be removed from ours?

As the old saying goes, "Aim for perfection, and let grace fill the rest". Sure, we'll never be perfect. WE can only do our best to try to be.

Sin, so why should anyone even try to stop sinning - if God is going to forgive them anyway? I mean, John Wayne, converted to catholism on his death bed - so he got to party through life (and die of lung cancer - that cigarette smiking was perhaps not a good idea) and still gets grace!!
Or how about if we on sin on things not affecting anyone else? Come on, God knows we are human - he still loves us - so why shouldn't we revel in his love - and PARTY!!!!

There is one reason that we cannot simply keep on sinning. The guilt we feel from our hurting of our Lord and Savior.
Does anything in the world feel heavier than guilt? I have felt it often, have carried over many steps on never ending roads.
Guilt resembles a sword with two edges. One side will always cut for justice, imposing morals on those who would fear it. It is the consequence of conscience, what separates good from evil.
To most the suffering caused by conscience will far outweigh any external threats. Some would conclude that guilt-conscience-is the primary difference between good and evil. In this regard, guilt must be considered positive.
But there is another side to that. Conscience does not always adhere to rational judgment. Guilt is self-imposed, but not always rightly. Take when adam and jim threw the rock , and I asked them to stop, and they broke a windshield. Or when my great-grandmother died. Or when my grandfather suffered a quintuple bypass surgery.
Rationally, I knew that I was blameless, and that the actions were beyond my influence, or that I had acted properly despite the result.
"Rationale is little defense against the weight of guilt."
In time, I came to throw off many of these burdens. Others remain, and they shall be there until I die. I accept this as inevitable, and use the weight to guide my future steps.
This, I must believe, is the one and only true purpose of conscience. Our conscience reminds us of our place, and when we go on later to pray for our sins, the pain guilt imposes upon us far outweighs the temporary pleasure of sinning.
She only likes meat on her burrito, but she does like taco bell. Liz, does she need to go thursday or not, you still haven't answered.

Sure it answered the question, but I think you missed one thing. I liked readin that though, it was neat, and truthful. But what you missed was that the weight of guilt takes away from our relationship with Christ. If you have to carry a burden of weight all the time how are you supposed to carry your cross? Can you share the Good News about our Lord if you are always down, focused on what you've done wrong? I don't think you can, at least as effectively as you could without that guilt. Perhaps one good thing concernin guilt, without it we wouldn't ask for forgiveness.
Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner.

It is entirely possible to share the Good News while being focused on your sins, just as possible as sharing Jesus while not being a Christian.
May 2nd 2007
And how does that work? Without being a negative example, I don't think its possible at all. Unless or course your meaning the odd sect of Jews who believe Jesus is their savior. And while I would not call them Christians, they certainly do believe in Christ. So I don't see how its possible for one to share Jesus without believing in him.

Wait. If guilt exists where you sin not, then guilt is not a basis for worrying about sin. Indeed, who is more confident in the saving power of God's grace, a sinner who feels guilt and thus can't fully accept the forgiveness that existed before he/she was even born and thus still strives to avoid sin or the sinner who is so confident in forgiveness that he/she sins all the more - knowing that nothing he/she can do would prevent his/her forgiveness?
So that fact that you irrationally feel guilt, while human, does not justify striving for a less sinful life.

I know people who arent Christian, dont believe in God, yet still encourage people to go to church and join Christianity because they know its a generally positive thing.
Also, with what Rich said, so If we are feel heavy guilt because of our sins, we shouldnt strive for a less sinful life?

Well first off, we call those people hipocrites. If they knew it was a 'generally good thing' why would they not go to church and become a Christian? Of course we should strive for a less sinful life, where did you get the idea that that isn't a good idea? Guilt is a reminder of sin, keeps us aleart to God's will. Also, when we sin we push God away from us, every time we sin a little bit of a wall is built between ourselves and our Lord. And while his grace can break down that wall, we can still remember it. Never a good thing to try to put something between God and ourselves. His grace is neverending, but don't put the Lord our God to the test.

Noah, as I recall Jesus was always far more likely to condemn the "reglious" and/or "chosen" people for not acting in the spirit and truth of their faith than he ever was about gentiles (that is, non Jews - and hence non chosen people). While we all may be hippocrites, at least those coming to church - even if they are not christians - are draw by something - God's quiet voice - or maybe they just lisee something in others there which they want too!!!
More importantly, guilt may be a human emotion - but we are called to repent and know we are forgiven. SiSince we are forgiven, then we are taught by the Bible that we have to let that guilt go!! God does not want us to be guilty for what we have done. I believe that God does not even necessarily want us to live the kind of life which strives to avoid sin - not so we will go to heaven some day (although that is a good thing too) but because He wants us to live fully human - fully realized lives. Right now. Sin is inherent in the human condition - something Genesis makes clear. Choosing to live a life of Love (God is Love, right?) - That is what we called to do - not merely to avoid sin. Love is what makes one person - indeed even God - lay down his life for another.
So, Shawn, let yourself be weak enough to let God lighten your burden - Not just rationally, not just emotionally but also Soulfuuly - spiritually - God believes you can!! Are you going to call God a liar?
Now, I must also admit that I can not let go of my sin, my guilt and such burdens - even to God - but I also know that I am too weak. Maybe someday, I will be weak enough to stop fighting God over them....

Why are you adressing me there...I already said that.
Both of you-it's hypocrite. Sorry. And that isn't being a hypocrite at all. They know that being a Christian has positive impacts, but they don't believe in it, and they aren't pretending to, so there's no internal contradicition providing for hypocrisy.
