Discussions On God: Sunday Night Discussions - Drink Deep (Sr. High)
1 to 36 of 36
Feb 7th 2008
A place to further discuss what was talked about at the last Drink Deep. Was there something you wanted to say but didn't get a chance to, or something that hit you later thinking about what was discussed? Here's another place for discussion...

I thought the stations of the cross were really cool, i like how it was interactive and you didnt just sit there listening to the cd.
Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner.

I said too much but what I really should of said to all of you is that you all have touched lives all around - on Sudday nights, during the week, on mission trips, at school. No one who has brightened someone's day, touched someone's heart, prayed for someone, etv. can ever be a failure!! Thank you for all you teach me. Now get out there and keep taking risks for Christ, love and kindness!!

Was not at discussion Sunday night but...here are a few quotes I like
Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm.-Winston Churchill
We learn wisdom from failure much more than from success. We often discover what will do, by finding out what will not do; and probably he who never made a mistake never made a discovery.-Samuel Smiles
Failure and doubt(topics of sermons) can run together depending on how one responds to failure. Do we doubt and give up without other attempts or do we persevere from the expierence?

good quotes
while we were talking about failure and doubt, perseverence, and those things, a [random] question came to mind... What does "meek" mean, as in the good kind?
We were talking about how you have to take the risk and keep going, which is being kind of bold. That's good. Then i thought of meekness, and just wondered.. If someone could describe it or list some verses to check out or something, I'd appreciate it.. if i learn anything else, i'll comment! = )
Thanks

Above weblink does an excellant job-Whole bunch of verses of meekness and defining it in Hebrew and Greek.

Perhaps the hardest thing about "meek" is that we tend to think that means someone who is pushed around by every one and any thing but several discussions I saw indicated it is "meekness" with God that Jesus meant. That is, being willing to accept God's plan, and direction and guidance rather than insisting upon our own plans. Being humble and feeling appreciative of God's love for you!! That sometimes requires that you stand up for your christian faith, not just let the world - or people in it - push you into things that you know are not what God wants for you!!

!! Thanks both of you!! EAch post taught me quite a bit-- = )
what i think now of meekness.......
=>Balance. God is meek!, b/c He treats us as we deserve (..actually, better). Being meek as a person would be giving another person what they deserve or giving something the attention that it needs... The man with leprosy that went back to thank Jesus after he discovered he was healed was meek, as was the blind man who stuck up for Jesus (kind of) against the Pharisees (they banned him!) was also meek. They realized what Jesus did was quite the gift, and that he was important (the Lord--!!) The other fellows also healed of leprosy who didn't go to thank Jesus were less meek.
=>Realizing what you deserve. Kind of like humble... It would be like, I told the truth, so I do deserve a little respect.. COncerning God, it's like, I'm a sinner and small!!! I really don't deserve what God did and does for me, but he does those things anyway. Wow... (and he probly thanks God) (a lot). Going along with that is acting on these sentiments....as in, maybe the fellow goes to serve somehow.
=>realizing what is. God does love me! I need to try to count that always!!! *dances*
! Also just thought of Gideon....he seemed reluctant to go and lead an army, but he did and called out God's name on the battleground. He had doubt (hmm..) but still acted..
that's some that I got from meekness-----bet there's a lot more to say about it, though!
(if anyone read this, ! hope your eyes are ok... X D thanks!,)

meekness is often associated with a negative connotation. i really believe that it takes some strength of character to be meek. it is NOT the same as weak.

Kind of like that "turn the other cheek" thing - you all have probably heard this but - Mathew 5:39 says if someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other one too. Well, for someone facing you to strike your right cheek - presuming they are right handed (like 90% are), that means they "back handed" you. That is, they slapped you contempuously - or as an insult - with the back of their right hand. Jesus does indicate that you are not to strike them back but also you don't back down - you stand up to them and let them keep hitting to show that their violence will not make you back down or do what you don't want to - that is, be violent back. So, you are meek in the sense - perhaps - that you don't fight back but you have to be quite strong in showing your belief ... I doubt I could be that meek...

I really thought there'd be more people upset about the honoring your parents discussion on Sunday. Everybody's ambivalent?

Psalm 16:11
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
was on facebook's Daily Bible Verse, reminded me of today's youth group "lesson" ! Maybe we can't be beside Him right now, but when doing things out of love + for Him, we are in His presence. And we talked about His plan-- that could be path of life (or maybe that's salvation author is talkin about. i had thought of Him having a plan for everyone) which is pretty awesome on His part.. both things really..

If you want another fun one I didn't mention, Ps. 119:105 mentions that God's Word is a lamp for your feet, for your path. But, have you ever noticed a lamp doesn't flood the forest with lght, it only gives you enough to see the next few steps...

So what did everyone think about Achan? (It seemed like most people had never heard the story before...)

Guess we humans haven't changed much in the last 3500 years or so!! We all (or am I projecting again) feel that urge to want something special just because we can't have it!!

I thought last Sunday was great, the leadership team did a great job. I especially liked the difference between compassion and pity (I've already had two people who saw the notes ask me about that). What about you all, what do you think about being compassionate? What can we do?

So we just finished "Life Hurts, God Heals". Thoughts? What did you like? What did you learn?

I learned that pain needs to be examined, not ignored.
..that honesty is super significant in healing...
..that God wants to and will listen to you vent. = ) and will heal you in His time...
..that pain is real for everyone (dur? all well..) ( there is soo much potential and willing from God for healing. he works many great turn-arounds for people!! hoorah..
But it stinks that so many people hurt and hold on to it!!!.......or try to fix it, but are merely using band-aids.) ...urgh... ...
..that everyday! is new in God's eyes. (how 'bout ours? i may need an eye- change..)
= ) i was thankful for the series.

Okay, I haven't added a few lately because, well, my arm hurt. So the last two weeks were W & A of WATER. What did you think? Are worshipping God and allying with others goals in your life? How so?
Mar 18th 2009
From last Sunday night:
What did you all think of the descriptions of who God is? Did you agree or disagree? Are there more you would add? What about how we know He exists?

Last time at Drink Deep we talked about 4 different ways in which Jesus shared the love of God with people and what we can learn from Him. Which one is the easiest for you? Which one is the hardest? What ideas did you get about telling people about the love of God?
Apr 21st 2009
It's been a few weeks, but on Sunday we were back and talked about how we have to try, that the only way to really fail with not telling someone about Jesus is to not try, about how sometimes people need to hear about Jesus more than just once? Do you find that? What are your thoughts?
Jun 2nd 2009
So what did you think of Sunday? What did you think of the parable of the seeds? What seed are you? What are you planting?
Jun 2nd 2009
sometimes i feel choked by the thorns but with lots of help from God it isnt as bad but it is obviously something i still need to work on, the whole worrying thing

Last night we talked about two more parables, those of the lost sheep and the lost coin. What did you think about those stories? How do you feel after hearing them?
